'Home Rule' Episode 6: Food Fight! The Politics of Philly's Restaurant Recovery

The hospitality industry, and particularly bars, restaurants, and live performances, have born the brunt of the job losses over the last year, and this is an important driver of the elevated unemployment rate, as the Pew ‘State of the City’ report shows.

On the latest episode of the Home Rule podcast, we talked with with Melissa Bova of the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association and Councilmember and restaurant business owner Allan Domb about the outlook for restaurants this spring and summer, and what’s happening now in the policy space to support a full recovery of this important source of economic and cultural vitality in Philly.

This was a fun conversation that got into a number of different areas of policy, from the federal rescue package, to the Health Department’s impossible HVAC requirements, to the future of streeteries and cafe seating permits, so give it a listen, and stay tuned for more episodes of Home Rule, a part of the RADIOKISMET podcast network here in Philadelphia.
