Panel Discussion: Paul Steinke, executive director of the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia; Harris Steinberg, director, Lindy Institute for Urban Innovation, Drexel University; Cory Kegerise of the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission, State Historic Preservation Office and George Claflen, Claflen Associates. Panelists will consider what the current situation on Jewelers Row can teach us– especially about how preservation emergencies like this one can be forestalled. We’ll look at the need for a citywide preservation inventory and plan, and what they might entail, and we’ll consider transfer of development rights (TDRs) and possibly other tactics to help protect historic properties.
